Over 16 million trips made during National Day holiday

This year's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays witnessed a remarkable surge in travel, with border inspection authorities reporting a total of 16.343 million individuals crossing borders. This marked an impressive increase of 11.5% compared to the same period last year, averaging out to approximately 2.043 million travelers each day. The peak influx occurred on October 4, when 2.353 million people traversed through entry and exit points.

Among the total travelers, 9.165 million were mainland residents, reflecting a 9.6% rise from previous year figures. Additionally, residents from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan accounted for 5.744 million, representing a 12.2% increase year-on-year. Foreign nationals also contributed significantly to the numbers, totaling 1.434 million which indicates a 21.6% growth.

A notable portion of the incoming foreign nationals took advantage of visa waiver policies, with 751,000 individuals benefiting, marking a substantial increase of 19.8%. Furthermore, 535,000 people entered through applicable exemption policies, highlighting a dramatic 46.8% rise from last year.

The operational capacity at borders was also notable, with a total of 744,000 transport vehicles, including aircraft, ships, trains, and cars, inspected for entry and exit. This was an 11% increase compared to the same holiday period last year, reflecting a robust travel infrastructure.

In line with the directives from the National Immigration Administration, border inspection agencies implemented strict measures including "two announcements and one reminder." This approach focused on providing timely updates regarding traveler flows at ports, enabling the public to plan their journeys more effectively by traveling during off-peak hours.

In addition to scheduling advisories, authorities have adopted a scientific approach to organizing operations at border crossings. This includes ensuring that all inspection channels operated efficiently while adhering to the guideline that mandates no Chinese citizen should wait in line for more than 30 minutes.

Collaboration among various departments has been strengthened to better manage passenger flows during peak travel times. This comprehensive coordination also covers transportation support, allowing for smoother customs processes even in the face of adverse weather conditions.
