This year, the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival coincide, contributing to a significant increase in cross-border travel demand. Favorable factors, such as visa-free policies and the resumption of flights, are driving both domestic and foreign travelers to seek new experiences. As a result, national ports are bracing for a peak in travel activity. The National Immigration Administration forecasts that the daily average of travelers crossing borders during this holiday period could exceed 2 million, with October 1 and 6 predicted to be the busiest days.
According to the projections, major international airports are expected to witness a steady rise in passenger numbers. Daily averages for inbound and outbound travelers have been estimated at 101,000 for Shanghai Pudong, 51,000 for Guangzhou Baiyun, and 46,000 for Beijing Capital. Additionally, Shenzhen Bao'an and Chengdu Tianfu are anticipated to handle daily averages of 19,000 and 18,000 travelers respectively. The holiday season will also see various large-scale events in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, such as fireworks shows, concerts, and lantern exhibitions, likely drawing many mainland residents abroad and encouraging return visits from residents of Hong Kong and Macau.
Anticipating the surge, the National Immigration Administration has put in place comprehensive measures to ensure effective border inspections during the holidays. This involves cooperation among border inspection agencies nationwide to monitor both inbound and outbound travel closely. The administration has prioritized the timely release of passenger flow information at ports, which is essential for aiding travelers in their planning. Effective work shift organization and adequate deployment of personnel will be in place to ensure that citizens do not wait more than 30 minutes for clearance at the borders.
Moreover, there will be increased collaboration with joint inspection units at the ports, alongside local departments, to manage passenger flow efficiently during peak times. This proactive approach is designed to provide robust support for transportation and ensure that port clearance continues to function smoothly. In light of potential extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall, these arrangements aim to minimize any adverse effects on travel and maintain safety and efficiency throughout the period.
Travelers are urged by the National Immigration Administration to stay informed about changes in passenger flow and customs clearance conditions prior to their departure. It is particularly important for travelers to verify that their entry and exit documents, as well as visas, are valid. For Chinese citizens planning to travel abroad, awareness of the security situation and the entry policies of their destinations is crucial. They are encouraged to plan their itineraries judiciously while enhancing their risk prevention awareness and ensuring safety for both themselves and their belongings.
In the event of difficulties during customs clearance, travelers can seek assistance by calling the National Immigration Administration's dedicated service hotline at 12367 or from the immigration management police on duty at the ports. These measures highlight the administration's commitment to ensuring an orderly and efficient travel experience for all individuals during this peak travel period.
