College Hosts Conference to Anchor High-Quality Development

A roundtable with diverse participants discussing ideas.

On December 8, Zhejiang University's International Education College convened a special faculty meeting focusing on transformational development, research enhancement, and platform construction for the year 2025. This meeting aimed to systematically plan the college's future initiatives through the lenses of vision, will, and action.

Dean Chen Weiying, who chairs the meeting, began by reflecting on the progress achieved by the Teaching Center and the International Chinese Education Office. This progress includes advancements in program development, course management, and project oversight. She outlined the essential tasks for the upcoming phase, which consist of creating a smart learning platform, revising the curriculum, expanding short-term projects, and enhancing the faculty team.

During the meeting, Dean Chen emphasized the need for the international Chinese teaching staff to foster a composite skill set that encompasses language proficiency, expertise, research capability, and artificial intelligence integration. She encouraged faculty members to take an active role in the college's growth, collectively working towards establishing a new paradigm for high-quality development.

Following this overview, Teacher Wu Jian from the Teaching Center presented the progress of the smart learning platform's development, detailing the project's background, technical architecture, question bank creation, and mechanisms for teacher involvement. He noted that the project is now at a critical juncture, requiring the completion of test question evaluations, and he invited additional teachers to join the review team to keep the project timeline on track.

Next, Associate Professor Xu Weimin shared insights from his own research journey, including topic selection, theoretical advancements, and academic contributions. He highlighted his work in language philosophy and Chinese character culture, particularly a project titled 'Transcending Boundaries: The Dilemma of Boundaries in Western Philosophy and Its Solutions,' which has received later-stage funding approval from the National Social Science Fund for 2025. This project is poised to significantly enrich the college's research capabilities and foster the professional development of younger educators.

As the meeting drew to a close, Vice Dean Chen Weiying posed three pivotal questions to the faculty: What goals do they envision for the future? What changes are they prepared to make individually? What concrete actions will they undertake to facilitate this transformation? She asserted that the institution stands at a crucial crossroads as it plans for the 14th Five-Year Plan, urging faculty to enhance their commitment and contribution in teaching, research, and social services.

This meeting not only delineated the future direction for the college but also reinforced the collective mission and strength of the faculty. With the themes of 'transformational development, research enhancement, and platform construction' as a foundational call-to-action, all teachers are poised to adopt a more engaged approach in their academic and professional endeavors.

In conclusion, the faculty meeting set a definitive course for the International Education College at Zhejiang University, fostering an environment where educators can contribute their insights and efforts towards building a more distinguished international Chinese education framework.
