Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in Japan has announced an open recruitment for the position of Chinese Director at its Confucius Institute. This initiative is integral to the institute's mission, which is aimed at promoting Chinese language and culture within an international context. The university is looking for a qualified candidate who possesses a combination of educational credentials, relevant experience, and a commitment to the values of international Chinese education.

The ideal candidate should not exceed the age of 58 and must be physically and mentally fit, demonstrating adaptability to the dynamic environment of academic life. Furthermore, applicants are required to hold at least a bachelor’s degree. An associate professor title or higher is preferred, although candidates with substantial administrative experience or those holding a lecturer position will be considered, provided they have relevant experience of over eight years.

Moreover, candidates should have overseas study or work experience to enhance their qualifications. A strong command of the Japanese language is necessary, coupled with familiarity in teaching Chinese. Leadership capabilities, solid organizational management skills, and the ability to communicate across cultures are essential attributes expected of applicants.

Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in the utilization of the internet and multimedia for educational and management purposes. This role requires strict adherence to long-term overseas study regulations funded by the school, while managing family responsibilities alongside work commitments during the assignment.

The appointed Chinese Director's tenure is set to begin around October 2026. Typically, the length of assignment ranges from two to four years. During this overseas posting, the salary and benefits will align with the regulations prescribed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

To apply, interested candidates are required to submit their application form and a scanned copy of a recommendation letter from their unit, signed by the respective authority. Applications should be sent via email to the provided address by the registration deadline of February 28, 2026. The application process will involve a qualifications review based on the specified criteria, followed by selection interviews.

For inquiries related to the application process, candidates can reach out to Teacher Xu via phone at 0571-87078513 or by email at joicexmj@zju.edu.cn. Additionally, the application form as well as a recommendation letter template are available for prospective applicants.

This recruitment initiative signals APU's commitment to fostering international education and cultural exchange, aligning with the broader goals of the Confucius Institute. The university's emphasis on leadership, ethical responsibility, and dedication to educational excellence underscores the importance of this position.
