Ding Xuexiang Speaks at 2025 World Digital Education Conference

On May 14, 2025, Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, graced the opening ceremony of the 2025 World Conference on Digital Education held in Wuhan. His attendance underscored the significance the Chinese government places on the evolution and integration of digital technologies within education.

During his speech, Ding emphasized the pivotal role of digital education in modernizing China's educational framework. He remarked that President Xi Jinping has continually highlighted the implementation of a national digitization strategy aimed at cultivating a learning society. This initiative is essential to nurture diverse talents essential for the all-round construction of a modern socialist nation.

Ding articulated the accelerated integration of digital technology within educational practices, noting it occurs at an unprecedented rate. He emphasized the urgency of aligning with the intelligent era's educational needs, advocating for deeper international collaboration on digital education as part of the implementation of the Global Digital Compact, which aligns with the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

He proceeded to propose four key recommendations to foster a cooperative international framework for digital education. First, he urged for the establishment of a high-level global cooperation system that enhances strategy and policy exchange among nations, thereby facilitating expansive collaboration and broadening the World Digital Education Alliance's membership.

Secondly, Ding advocated for leveraging digital technology to transform educational environments through collaborative research on common technologies and the development of large-scale education-specific models. This initiative aims to create a diverse range of digital education services addressing the varied needs of learners.

The third recommendation focused on promoting equitable access to digital educational achievements. He urged nations to enhance their digital infrastructure connectivity and support digitization efforts in developing countries by strengthening talent training and providing requisite technical assistance, thereby closing the digital education gap.

Lastly, Ding stressed the importance of ensuring ethical practices in digital education. He called for adherence to technologies that promote societal good, enhanced governance, and vigilant oversight concerning digital educational products and standards.

In attendance at the conference was Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Han Chunnarok, who also delivered remarks during the opening ceremony.

Prior to the main event, Ding Xuexiang toured the Education Digitization Achievements Exhibition, engaging actively with exhibitors and learning about various innovations in the field.

The 2025 World Digital Education Conference, themed 'Education Development and Transformation: The Intelligent Era,' brought together over 600 participants, including officials from various governments, international organizations, academic institutions, and experts in the educational domain, highlighting a collective commitment to progress in digital education.
