China and Indonesia Extend Visa-Free Transit to 55 Nations

China and Indonesia Extend Visa-Free Transit to 55 Nations

The State Administration of Immigration has announced that from June 12, 2025, Indonesian citizens will be able to visit China under the 240-hour visa-free transit policy. This significant development expands the number of countries eligible for this transit policy to a total of 55.

Currently, individuals from 55 countries—including Indonesia, Russia, and the United Kingdom—can transit through China with valid international travel documents and a confirmed ticket for travel to a third country or region. They are permitted to enter China via any of the 60 designated ports across 24 provinces, including major cities like Beijing and Shanghai, and can stay for a maximum of 10 days. During their stay, they can partake in various activities such as tourism, business, or family visits, although activities requiring pre-approval, like work or study, still necessitate appropriate visas.

A representative from the State Administration of Immigration highlighted that integrating Indonesia into the 240-hour visa-free transit policy is a pivotal step in realizing the directives from the Central Committee’s Neighborhood Work Conference. This initiative is expected to bolster exchanges and enhance cooperation between China and Indonesia.

The extension of the visa-free policy aims to generate a positive momentum in cooperation, fostering more efficient trade and investment opportunities, and enhancing cultural exchanges and mutual understanding among citizens of both nations.

In addition to benefiting travelers, this policy adjustment also underscores China’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its relationships with ASEAN countries, facilitating smoother movement as international relations evolve.

As part of its forward-looking approach, the State Administration of Immigration intends to continuously improve the immigration management system. They plan to optimize policies aimed at maximizing facilitation for entry and exit, ultimately making travel and living in China more convenient for foreign nationals.

The administration's proactive measures are part of a broader strategy to welcome international travelers and enhance interactions that are beneficial for both China and the respective countries involved.

Overall, this added layer of accessibility provided by the visa-free transit policy stands as a testament to China’s dedication to fostering robust international ties and promoting cultural integration in a rapidly globalizing world.
