Immigration Agencies Enhance Border Inspections for Ching Ming Festival

Immigration Agencies Enhance Border Inspections for Ching Ming Festival

During this year's Ching Ming Festival holiday, the daily average of people entering and exiting the nation's ports is projected to reach 2.1 million, reflecting a significant 21.4% increase compared to the previous year. Major international airports, including Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou Baiyun, Hangzhou Xiaoshan, and Chengdu Tianfu, are similarly experiencing a rise in passenger numbers. The anticipated average daily passenger traffic at these airports is estimated at 39,000, 81,000, 48,000, 12,000, and 16,000, respectively.

In addition to airport traffic, land ports, particularly those close to Hong Kong and Macau, are witnessing a notable surge. An increase in the number of returning residents from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese traveling to honor their ancestors is expected. Specifically, the average daily visitor numbers at key ports such as Gongbei, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Qingmao, and Hengqin are forecasted to reach 367,000, 123,000, 114,000, and 95,000. Meanwhile, Shenzhen's various ports, including Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, and Liantang, are projected to handle passenger numbers of 249,000, 228,000, 160,000, 112,000, and 105,000 per day.

In light of these anticipated increases, the State Administration of Immigration has implemented specific measures to ensure effective border inspection procedures throughout the Ching Ming Festival holiday. Border inspection agencies nationwide are being urged to intensify their monitoring of entry and exit traffic, as well as port operations. This includes timely publication of passenger flow information, which will serve as a reference for travelers planning their schedules.

The administration emphasizes the importance of scientifically organizing operations and establishing sufficient inspection channels, particularly at land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau, as well as for direct flights to Taiwan. These efforts aim to facilitate the customs clearance process for residents of these regions and for overseas Chinese returning to commemorate their ancestors.

Moreover, collaboration with port inspection units and relevant local departments is crucial for managing passenger flow and traffic during peak periods. Comprehensive support initiatives are being put in place to ensure that customs clearance at ports remains safe, efficient, and streamlined.

Travelers are also reminded to remain aware of any changes in passenger flow and customs conditions prior to their travels. It is essential for both Chinese and foreign travelers to verify the validity of their entry and exit documents, including visa endorsements.

In the event of any challenges encountered during the customs clearance process, the State Administration of Immigration encourages individuals to reach out for assistance by calling the National Immigration Service's dedicated hotline at 12367, or by seeking help from on-duty immigration control police.
