In a significant shift regarding the governance of private education in Singapore, the SkillsFuture Singapore Agency (SSG) has officially announced the suspension of the renewal of the scope of accreditation for private education institutions. This decision, communicated to stakeholders following the issuance of the Notice Concerning Suspension, confirms that the SSG has now assumed oversight responsibilities previously held by the Singapore Private Education Council (CPE).
Despite the alteration in oversight, SSG has clarified that the scope of accreditation will not be expanded during this transitional phase. The focus at this time is on maintaining existing certifications, ensuring that currently accredited institutions can continue operations without disruption. This approach aims to solidify the quality assurance framework for private education in Singapore.
Our center is actively engaged in discussions with the SSG concerning the measures and expectations regarding the quality assurance of private education in Singapore. These dialogues are vital in establishing a clear understanding of how the SSG intends to oversee these institutions moving forward.
As part of this transition, there will be no new expansions to the accreditation categorization for private education institutions certified by four-year trusts. Existing applicants enrolled in programs that were part of the previously established certification scope will continue to receive assurance and services related to their accreditation.
This announcement from SSG is crucial for stakeholders within the private education sector, providing clarity on the current regulatory landscape and reinforcing the commitment to quality education amid organizational changes. The implications of this decision will be closely monitored as the private education landscape adapts to the newly structured oversight.
