Border Inspection Agencies Mobilized for May 1st Customs Clearance

Border Inspection Agencies Mobilized for May 1st Customs Clearance

During the upcoming May 1st holiday, the average daily passenger traffic at the country's ports is projected to reach 2.15 million, marking a significant 27% increase compared to the same period last year. The highest volume of inbound and outbound travelers is expected on May 1st and May 5th. Major international airport ports, including Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou Baiyun, Beijing Capital, Hangzhou Xiaoshan, and Chengdu Tianfu, are experiencing a steady rise in passenger numbers. Daily averages for these airports are anticipated to be 101,000, 50,000, 45,000, 19,000, and 18,000 respectively.

This year, the continuous trend of increased two-way travel between the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao is expected to elevate customs traffic, especially since Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao will be hosting various large-scale events during the holiday period. As a result, significant increases in daily entry and exit passengers at land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao are anticipated. For instance, Shenzhen ports are projected to handle daily average passenger volumes of 250,000 at Luohu, 220,000 at Futian, 150,000 at Shenzhen Bay, 100,000 at Liantang, and another 100,000 via the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail West Kowloon Station.

In addition, Gongbei, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Qingmao, and Hengqin ports are also expected to see heightened activity, with average daily passenger figures of 370,000, 127,000, 107,000, and 100,000 respectively. The surge in traffic underscores the importance of efficient customs operations and timely border inspections during this peak travel season.

To ensure the smooth processing of the anticipated passenger influx, the State Administration of Immigration has organized special measures to oversee the border inspection processes at ports. These measures involve heightened monitoring of passenger traffic and operational efficiency, as well as timely reporting on inbound and outbound movements to assist travelers in planning their journeys.

Border inspection agencies are also tasked with enhancing service capabilities and deploying adequate police personnel to ensure minimal waiting time for travelers, specifically aiming for a maximum wait of 30 minutes for Chinese citizens at border crossings. Collaborative efforts with other port inspection units and relevant departments are aimed at formulating comprehensive transportation support strategies during peak customs clearance periods.

These strategies are intended to mitigate potential disruptions caused by extreme weather or other adverse situations, striving for a secure, efficient, and seamless customs clearance experience.

Travelers, both domestic and international, are encouraged by the State Administration of Immigration to stay updated on any changes in passenger flow and customs clearance conditions prior to their travels. Additionally, they should verify the validity of their entry and exit documents, as well as visa endorsements, to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Should any issues arise during the customs clearance process, travelers can reach out for assistance by calling the National Immigration Service's 12367 service hotline or by seeking help from the immigration control police available on site.
