During the recent 'May 1st' holiday, border inspection agencies across China facilitated the exit and entry of 10.896 million travelers, representing a significant year-on-year increase of 28.7%. This period saw an average of 2.179 million visits daily, with the highest single-day figures recorded on May 3, when 2.297 million individuals passed through customs.
Of the total travelers, mainland residents accounted for 5.778 million entries and exits, marking a 21.2% rise compared to the previous year. Additionally, there were 4.03 million travelers from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, reflecting a robust increase of 37.1%. The volume of foreign travelers also surged, with 1.115 million entering and exiting, which is a remarkable increase of 43.1% from last year.
Among the foreign visitors, approximately 380,000 enjoyed visa-free entries, representing an impressive rise of 72.7% year on year. To accommodate this influx, a total of 456,000 vehicles, including ships, trains, and cars, were inspected, reflecting an 18.1% increase from the same holiday period last year.
In light of the increasing passenger flow, the State Administration of Immigration coordinated border inspection agencies nationwide to ensure efficient operations. These agencies implemented a strategy known as 'two announcements and one reminder' to improve travel logistics and enhance passenger experience.
Authorities prioritized scientific forecasting of passenger movements, enabling them to publish real-time information about inbound and outbound travel, thereby assisting travelers in planning their itineraries effectively. This streamlined approach was crucial in managing the high volume of travel during the holiday.
To ensure smooth operations during peak travel times, border authorities organized work channels meticulously, enhancing customs clearance processes particularly for Chinese citizens. This included close collaboration with various departments to ensure the seamless movement of passengers and the facilitation of transportation services.
The overall performance during the May 1st holiday indicated that entry and exit operations at ports across China were executed safely, efficiently, and in a well-ordered manner, thereby meeting the expectations set forth by both authorities and travelers.
