The Chinese Government Scholarship Management Committee has announced that doctoral students will have the opportunity to apply for an extension of their scholarship funding period between April 3 and April 25, 2026. This announcement is significant as it provides an avenue for PhD candidates to continue their studies without the financial burden that might otherwise impede their academic progress.
To qualify for the extension, applicants must fulfill several essential criteria. Candidates must exhibit a serious commitment to their studies and demonstrate satisfactory academic performance. It is also required that the initial scholarship period is set to expire in July 2026 or January 2027, but they have been unable to graduate on schedule.
Furthermore, candidates must have successfully processed the extension of their study period within the institution. They are also required to pass the annual scholarship review, complete a mandatory project proposal report mandated by the university, and successfully pass the mid-term assessment before they can be considered for an extension.
A critical stipulation is that doctoral students are permitted to apply for a funding extension only once throughout their academic tenure. The extension can be granted for a period of either six months or one year. Importantly, students who have previously submitted an extension request will not be eligible to apply again.
The application process consists of several stages beginning with the student self-evaluation phase that runs from April 3 to April 25, 2026. During this time, students must access the China Government Scholarship Study Abroad Management Information System to complete the necessary self-evaluation and submit various other required documents.
Following the self-evaluation, there will be a mentor review phase occurring from April 10 to April 28, 2026. Supervisors or designated contact persons are required to log in to the International Student Management System to carry out annual reviews and assess the extension requests of the students they supervise.
Concluding the process is the school review stage, which takes place between April 28 and May 10, 2026. The International Education College will conduct a thorough evaluation of all candidates based on their academic performance, behavior at the university, and feedback received from both their respective departments and supervisors.
For any inquiries regarding the process, candidates can reach out to the Office of Student Affairs within the International Education College. Key contacts include Teacher Liu at 0571-87952848, Teacher Feng also at 0571-88982357, and Teacher Li at 0571-87077831, all located in Room 331 of the International Education College.
This initiative by the Chinese government underscores a commitment to supporting international students in their pursuit of advanced degrees, thereby reinforcing the country’s dedication to educational excellence and cultural exchange.
Chinese Government Scholarship annual review starts April 3, 2026, for eligible students assessing moral and academic performance.
International scholarship students must check in monthly from the 1st to 10th. Follow procedures or face review impacts.
Online Service Hall and Study Abroad App will undergo maintenance on April 2, 2026, starting at 16:00.
