The China Scholarship Council has officially announced the commencement of the annual review process for the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship. This comprehensive evaluation is crucial for assessing scholarship recipients on a variety of factors, including moral character, academic performance, attitude towards learning and research, and participation in extracurricular activities.

Eligible participants for this evaluation include all students whose scholarships remain valid past September 2026, as well as PhD candidates whose original scholarship tenure ends in July 2026 or January 2027 but who are unable to graduate on schedule. Additionally, students whose scholarship qualifications were suspended due to an unsuccessful evaluation in 2025 are allowed to apply for restoration.

The annual review process is divided into several phases. The first phase is the Student Self-Evaluation Phase, from April 3, 2026, to April 25, 2026. During this phase, students must access the Chinese Government Scholarship Management Information System and complete the 'Annual Scholarship Self-Assessment' module, filling out necessary self-assessment information and submitting additional documents.

Following the self-evaluation is the Academic Review Phase, which runs from April 10 to April 28, 2026. In this phase, supervisors or designated contact persons for graduate students will evaluate their academic performance through the International Student Management System, scoring students and providing comments. For undergraduate students, this evaluation will be conducted by the international student counselor based on performance transcripts and general conduct.

The final phase of the review is the School Review Phase, taking place from April 28 to May 10, 2026. The International Education College will rigorously evaluate participating students based on their self-assessment, academic achievements, and conduct, alongside feedback from their respective departments and mentors. This holistic approach aims to provide comprehensive insights into each student's overall performance.

It is important to underline that review outcomes will be categorized as pass or fail, with a maximum possible score of 100 points. A score of 60 points or above constitutes a passing grade. Students who successfully pass will retain their scholarships for the following year, while those who do not may face suspension or cancellation of their scholarship qualifications.

Students whose qualification for the Chinese Government Scholarship is suspended will cease to receive funds at the start of the next academic year. However, they may choose to study at their own expense in accordance with school policies. Those remaining in school after the scholarship suspension can opt to apply for the annual review before their suspension concludes. If they meet the requirements, they may have their scholarship reinstated for the subsequent academic year.

For any student who has been disqualified from receiving the scholarship, the suspension becomes effective immediately upon announcement, with no possibility of restoration. Therefore, it is critical for all participants to thoroughly prepare for each phase of the review process to ensure their continuing eligibility for the Chinese Government Scholarship.

For further information or assistance, students at the Hangzhou Campus can reach out to the Office of Student Affairs within the International Education College. Various professors and teachers are available for consultation, and their specific contact details have been provided to facilitate communication.

For students situated at non-Hangzhou campuses, the Teaching Management Department at Ocean University and the Student Affairs Department at the International Joint College are also available for queries. Faculty contacts across departments have been designated to support students throughout the review process.
