China hosts 2nd Yangtze River Delta Academic Exchange Event at Zhejiang University

From May 18 to 20, 2025, Zhejiang University served as the host for the 2nd Yangtze River Delta International Student Exchange Event, an occasion that brought together more than 100 high-level international students and mentors from 19 prestigious universities across the region. Among the participating institutions were notable names such as Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, and the University of Science and Technology of China.

Notable figures in attendance at the opening ceremony included Zhou Jianghong, the vice-chancellor of Zhejiang University, Wang Jing, the deputy director of the Study Abroad Administration Department of the National Study Abroad Fund Management Committee, and Du Jian, a first-level researcher at the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education.

During his keynote address, Zhou Jianghong emphasized the rich educational resources and exceptional research capabilities available in the Yangtze River Delta region, which have attracted a multitude of distinguished international students from around the world. He articulated that the primary objective of the event was to provide a platform for these students to present their academic accomplishments, foster academic exchanges, and enhance their innovative competencies, ultimately contributing to the high-quality evolution of international education in China.

Wang Jing highlighted the gathering of students from diverse nationalities and fields, noting the valuable opportunity for intellectual engagement through discussions and presentations. She expressed optimism that the knowledge shared at this event would inspire participants to become cultural ambassadors for China, each carrying back their experiences and insights to their home countries, thus articulating a comprehensive and authentic narrative about China's advancements.

Organized by the National Study Abroad Fund Management Committee and facilitated by Zhejiang University, the event received warm responses across various universities. Over its three-day run, participants were engaged in a diverse array of activities that included special presentations by international student instructors, academic reports tailored for international students, specialized academic salons, and academic poster exhibitions, alongside an exploration of local culture.

The event attracted a diverse cohort of participants from 36 countries, encompassing regions such as the United States, Germany, Canada, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, and Zimbabwe. This international representation is indicative of the growing global interest in the educational offerings of Chinese institutions.

Attending the opening ceremony alongside university officials were key representatives from partner institutions, further exemplifying the collaborative spirit underpinning the event. The event not only strengthened ties among universities but also enriched the academic experience of its attendees.
