On December 24, Professor Gu Zhen, the Assistant President of Zhejiang University, visited our institute for a research discussion aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of our development status.

During his visit, Gu Zhen expressed strong appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by the International Education Institute. He emphasized the university's commitment to internationalization and encouraged the institute to align its efforts with the "14th Five-Year Plan." He urged the institute to aspire to remarkable achievements, take advantage of emerging opportunities, and maintain its leadership role in the realm of international student education in China.

Gu Zhen laid out four key recommendations for the path forward. First, he advised that the institute closely align its work with national standards to support the overarching national strategy. This involves maintaining a high degree of openness and contributing to the establishment of a globally influential educational center.

Second, he encouraged rigorous benchmarking against leading institutions. By studying the internationalization successes of world-renowned universities, Zhejiang University can enhance its own global reputation and outreach.

The third recommendation was to foster a close connection with students by prioritizing a student-centered approach. He highlighted the importance of promoting students' growth, ensuring precise educational methods, and enhancing practical engagement and cultural immersion, ultimately cultivating knowledgeable and culturally empathetic individuals.

Lastly, Gu Zhen underscored the necessity of adhering to fundamental principles while maintaining a focus on problem-solving. He urged for a balanced approach to growth and security, addressing challenges that arise during development to achieve distinctive and impactful growth.

In this meeting, Wang Yufen, the Executive Vice Dean of the International Education College, provided an insightful overview of the training and development framework for international student education at Zhejiang University. She also shared the vision for the "14th Five-Year Plan." Other leadership team members, department heads, and educator representatives actively participated in the discussions.
