Zhejiang University has initiated the "My Favorite International Student Mentor" selection program, aimed at recognizing outstanding teachers who supervise international graduate students. This initiative is part of a broader effort to embody the values and directives stemming from the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party, further emphasizing the institution's commitment to enhancing the quality of education while promoting international openness.
In line with the strategic goals set forth by the school's 15th Party Congress, the university seeks to strengthen the brand of "Study at Zhejiang University" and improve its capacity to nurture high-level global talent. The university aims to invigorate the role of graduate supervisors in international student training and create a supportive learning community that fosters collaboration and harmony.
The selection program has clearly defined criteria for eligibility. Active teachers who have supervised at least one cohort of international graduate students and have continued in this role within the last five years are eligible for nomination. This ensures that the selection focuses on faculty who demonstrate a sustained commitment to guiding international students.
Candidates must also fulfill their educational responsibilities by emphasizing virtuous character cultivation and providing ideological guidance along with humanistic care for their students. The goal is to deepen these students' awareness of China and foster a strong sense of social responsibility while honing their academic and practical skills.
Furthermore, applicants must have students who actively engage in academic research, cultural activities, and innovative practices. A successful mentor is also measured by the positive outcomes of their guidance, particularly regarding their students' career prospects and contributions to international exchanges.
In terms of the selection process, there will be 10 to 20 mentors recognized based on nominations and recommendations, with the International Education College overseeing the framework for selection. The nomination process includes input from both colleges and directly from international students, ensuring a well-rounded selection.
A rigorous qualification review will take place, with a secretariat examining the nominees' materials. Following this, an online exhibition will allow both faculty and students to participate in the voting process, fostering community involvement in the selection.
Communication reviews will further assess candidates based on their educational achievements and significant contributions to the university and its international community. A final evaluation meeting will compile all inputs and establish the recommended candidates for the award.
Participants are required to submit their application materials electronically and in printed form by April 20, facilitating an organized approach to the nomination process. This includes specific documents that highlight each mentor's contributions and achievements.
Finally, those mentors awarded the title of "Favorite International Student Mentor" will receive special recognition from the International Education College. Subsequently, students supervised by these recognized mentors will be prioritized for scholarships, reinforcing the connection between excellent mentorship and opportunities for international students.
